This is how we test every product honestly and independently

Mabel buys every product herself, uses it for at least 4 weeks with Snowy and Nootje, and writes down what really happens. Transparency about our method is the foundation of trust.

Why our approach works

Most online reviews are written on the basis of a press release or a few hours of use. That is insufficient to know whether a litter box is still quiet after three weeks, whether a water fountain appeals to Nootje, or whether a GPS tracker still works well after rainy spells.
We only write a review when we have enough data. That means a test log with date notes, a score card per criterion and an honest final verdict including the points where the product falls short. That takes time, but it is the only way to be useful.

The test steps

How a review is created

From purchase to publication we always follow three fixed steps.

Buy and install yourself

Mabel orders every product directly via Bol or Coolblue at the normal consumer price. After delivery it goes straight into the living space of Snowy and Nootje. The first two days she observes how the cats react - without interfering.

Four weeks of daily use

Mabel keeps a test log: operation, noise, ease of cleaning, reaction of Snowy and Nootje, and any faults. Each criterion gets a score. For complex products we test for six weeks.

Publication with full transparency

The review contains the log, score card and an honest final verdict - including the disadvantages. Even when it is a recommended product. Affiliate links are clearly disclosed in accordance with ACM guidelines.

All photos are taken during real test sessions. No promotional photos from manufacturers.

Self-purchased

No free test samples. Mabel buys and pays for every product at the regular consumer price.

No advertising content

Manufacturers never pay for a review or a more positive verdict. Affiliate commissions come from sales, not as payment for content.

Disadvantages mandatory

Every review contains a section with disadvantages. If we found no disadvantages after four weeks of testing, that is noted too - with the explanation.

Reviews are revised

If a new model scores better, we revise the existing review and adjust the recommendation. Updated juli 2026.

Questions about our method

A manufacturer who knows their product is being reviewed sends the best sample. Via the regular webshop Mabel buys what everyone buys - including the chance of a production fault. That gives a fairer picture.
