Petlux Premium Pro review: the best choice for large cats

The most reliable automatic litter box I have tested - and I have tried seven.

The Petlux Premium Pro is the only litter box that both Snowy and Nootje used immediately without an adaptation period. The drum is quieter than most competitors, the app works flawlessly and the 9-litre capacity is easily enough for two cats. The only downside is the purchase price - but you earn it back in convenience.

Cleaning performance

The Petlux Premium Pro uses a rotating drum instead of a rake. The drum slowly rotates 360 degrees and separates clumps from clean litter via a built-in sieve. The result is a tray that looks almost new after every cycle.
After six weeks of daily use I had no blockages or mechanical failures. With the Zedar K1200 - which I tested simultaneously - I had a rake jamming on a larger clump twice in the same period.

The drum starts rotating 5 minutes after the cat leaves. Via the app you can adjust that delay to 2 or 10 minutes. I use 7 minutes - that gives Nootje time to sometimes return without the cycle being cancelled.

Noise level

This is the most striking quality difference from cheaper models. The Petlux Premium Pro produces a gentle, steady hum of about 38 decibels during the cleaning cycle - comparable to a refrigerator at a distance. My previous litter box (a rake system) reached peaks of 52 decibels, which woke me at night.
Snowy was slightly tense around the noise for the first two days. After that she ignored it completely. Nootje apparently never noticed - she walked right next to it while the drum was turning.

App and smart features

The Petlux app connects via wifi and shows per cat the number of visits, usage duration and weight (for models with a scale). For the Premium Pro without scale you see visit frequency and times. After a week I had a clear picture of when Snowy and Nootje use the tray.
The app works stably on iOS and Android. One complaint: the connection sometimes drops after a router restart and requires manual re-pairing. Not dramatic, but for a product at € 249 this should be smoother.
Health monitoring

A sudden drop in visit frequency or an increase above average can be an early signal of health issues. The app sent me a notification last year when Nootje used it less frequently for three days - turned out to be a mild bladder infection. Caught earlier thanks to the app.

Test log - 6 weeks

  1. Week 1

    Installation and acclimatisation

    Smooth

    Set up in the hallway. Cleaning delayed so Snowy and Nootje could get used to the smell and shape. Snowy used the tray after 2 hours. Nootje after 18 hours. Automatic cleaning activated on day 4.

  2. Week 2-3

    Daily use and first evaluation

    Good

    No mechanical issues. Average 4-5 cleaning cycles per day. App connection stable. Waste drawer emptied after 5 days.

  3. Week 4

    App outage after router update

    Minor issue

    After a firmware update on the router the connection was lost. Re-pairing took 8 minutes. The tray continued to work offline.

  4. Week 5-6

    Filter replacement and in-depth inspection

    Positive

    Carbon filter replaced after 5 weeks (manufacturer recommends 6-8 weeks). Tray fully dismantled for monthly cleaning: 12 minutes total. No wear or defects visible.
